Russia Armenia leaders meeting

Monday, September 19, 2022.

The attacks are against the territory of Armenia and not the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Azerbaijani army carried out strikes on 36 settlements in Armenia.

The attack of the Azerbaijani army injured about 500 people, and we are not talking only about the military personnel of the Armenian army but also about civilians.

The relevant information was announced to the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia.

Map of Armenia before war

"Azerbaijani Armed Forces shelled 36 settlements, including the communities of Goris, Sisyan, Kapan, Jermuk, Vardenis, Tekh, Gegamasar, as a result of which 192 residential buildings, three hotels, two schools, one medical facility, one banquet hall, four cattle sheds were destroyed partially or entirely.

And seven electricity infrastructure facilities, five water supply facilities, three natural gas pipelines, one bridge, two highways, and one road were damaged.

Two ambulances and four cars of personal use were hit, "said the official statement of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia.

Baku, in turn, refutes accusations that Azerbaijan was involved in the conflict on the border with Armenia, stressing that the reason for everything was the provocations from Armenia, despite all the existing agreements between Yerevan and Baku.

At the moment, the situation on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia remains extremely tense - according to some data, in recent days, Azerbaijan has increased its military presence near the edge of Armenia; however, this information has not yet been commented on by Baku.

Pelosi, in Armenia, Condemns Azerbaijan Over Clashes

NYT: Pelosi, in Armenia, Condemns Azerbaijan Over Clashes

Fighting last week, the deadliest between the two countries since 2020, was "initiated by the Azeris," Speaker Nancy Pelosi said while calling for a negotiated settlement.

At the same time and after the visit of President Nancy Pelosi (52nd Speaker of the United States House of Representatives), Armenia is getting closer and closer to the American Positions and proposals.

A few hours ago from Armenia.

Map of CSTO
Armenia has accused the CSTO of not fulfilling its obligations and is threatening to withdraw from the CSTO (the Russian counterpart to NATO).

The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigorian, accused the CSTO countries of not fulfilling their obligations.

And then, he said that Armenia is ready to consider withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

It is noteworthy that it soon officially announced Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO during a visit to Armenia by American representatives who promised to provide Yerevan with all kinds of assistance, in various ways, including military.

"What was our expectation and our request to the CSTO?

We are providing Armenia with military and military-political assistance to protect Armenia's sovereignty and the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territory of Armenia.

Our demand from the CSTO was precisely that.

So far, this still needs to be done.

Of course, that hope has completely collapsed, and no such hope exists. And only if there are substantial steps on the part of the CSTO can we think about it and be sure.

But the fact that so far, the CSTO has yet to respond correctly.

So that the Azerbaijani troops are entirely withdrawn from the sovereign territory of Armenia, our expectations have not been justified, "said Grigorian, stressing that the CSTO should be wary of Armenia's withdrawal from the organization.

Nancy Pelosi, who arrived in Armenia, promised Yerevan full support; however, according to Russia, such actions are provocative on the part of Yerevan. According to the first vice-chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, Viktor Vodolatsky, the reason for threats to withdraw Armenia from the CSTO is precisely the result of the incitement of the pro-Western opposition.

At the moment, it is known that the idea of the country's withdrawal from the CSTO is being actively promoted in Armenia.

However, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has yet to make official statements on this issue, which, however, will probably depend on the development of the situation.

At the same time, international press releases report gathering 50,000 soldiers on the borders of Armenia and Turkey.

Large movements are always observed with the same media and on Armenia - Iran and Azerbaijan borders.

USA

America knows that Russia is under pressure and is losing every day in the war it started with Ukraine, but it is also losing traditional allies that have supported it.

The top US general says his troops must be on high alert as Russia weighs its response to Ukraine's counterattack.

In particular, the commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, Mark Miley, warned on Sunday that it remains unclear how Russia might respond to its recent failures on the battlefield in Ukraine.

He, therefore, called for heightened vigilance among US troops.

He emphasized this during his visit to a base in Poland that contributed to Ukraine's war effort. In addition, he recalled the risks of escalation as the United States and its NATO allies helped Ukraine from a distance.

"It is the responsibility of all of us to maintain high levels of readiness and vigilance," Milley said from Warsaw after visiting the base.

His trip included an inspection of the base's air defenses, which have batteries of Patriot missiles that would be the last line of defense should Russia decide to attack the base.
