On the morning of March 14, over the Black Sea in the region of the Crimean Peninsula, the airspace control of the Russian Aerospace Forces recorded the flight of an American MQ-9 Reaper uncrewed aircraft in the direction of the state border of the Russian Federation.
The flight of the uncrewed aerial vehicle was carried out with the transponders closed, violating the limits of the area of the temporary airspace use regime established for the conduct of a special military operation, notified to all users of the international airspace and published by international standards.
To locate the intruder, fighters from the air defense forces on duty were lifted into the air.
As a result of a sharp maneuver around 9.30 (Moscow time), the MQ-9 uncrewed aircraft began an uncontrolled flight with a loss of height and collided with the water's surface
The Russian fighters did not use airborne weapons or engage the drone and returned safely to their base airfield.
