The Russians destroyed the first German LEO2A4 with simple 60s technology!
The first destruction of a German tank in the territory of the former Soviet Union after 1944!
With a simple 73mm Recoilless Gun, and 1960s technology, the Russians destroyed the first German Leopard-2A4 of the Ukrainians near Seversk.
It is the first German-made tank to be destroyed in the Ukraine/New Russia area since 1944 when Soviet armored divisions wiped out the last German SS division engaged in rear-guard action.
The tank and another LEO2A4 attempted a counterattack in the area to capture a village that dominated the battlefield and had been captured by the Russians a week before.
The Russian Bars-16 battalion and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) units were moving into the area. After locating it, they opened fire with an SPG-9 Kopyo.
The tank was hit sideways and immediately burst into flames, piercing the armor and detonating the ammunition.
The shot was fired with a PG-9VNT unguided projectile with a piercing capacity of 600 mm, i.e., 60 points of homogeneous steel.
The second Ukrainian tank managed to escape.
The LEO2A4s also proved to be an easy target for Russian anti-tanks in Syria in 2017. Still, there they were seen by ISIS fighters with modern Metis and Kornet-Es, which the Islamists had seized from Syrian Army warehouses.
It is worth noting that since yesterday the Russians have started advancing towards Sloviansk, following a course south of Seversk, and are 23 km from the city.
