Although the two Russian pilots ejected successfully, only the co-pilot was rescued, while the captain was killed in the air by the insurgent fire while he was parachuting.
The aircraft crashed on Syrian territory, 4 km south of the border. Another Russian marine was killed by the search and rescue team mentioned above.

As an event, it dominated the international media for four days with positions, quotations, and confrontations both in the military and more in the political and diplomatic arena, with the revelation of even new alliances in the development and formation of the geostrategy of the Middle East.
