Poland is making incredible defense expenditures

Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Ultimately, does the war only serve the big defense industries, or is it a collective massive preparation for a gigantic, maybe even the last war?

And if so, who will be the contenders?

President Andriy Duda announced that Poland, which borders and unconditionally supports Ukraine, will spend more than 4% of its GDP on defense in the next fiscal year.

"Next year, it is predicted that we will spend 137 billion zlotys (the national currency of Poland) (about 35 billion euros) on defense.

This represents more than 4% of our GDP," Duda said, speaking at a military equipment exhibition in Kielce.

"There is no price that is not worth paying so that Poland is free, nationally sovereign and independent so that Poles can live safely," the president added, according to the PAP news agency.

Poland, a member of NATO and the EU, decided to increase its defense budget after Russia invaded Ukraine

It has recently sounded the alarm about the danger posed by another neighboring country, Belarus, which it denounces for "provocations" mainly by the mercenaries of the Wagner organization now based there.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Warsaw has signed many arms contracts, mainly with the US and South Korea.

Warsaw will also buy from the US 32 F-35 fighter jets, 366 Abrams tanks, and Patriot anti-missile systems.

South Korea has agreed to buy about a thousand K2 tanks, 50 FA-50 fighter jets, and 288 K239 multiple-launch rocket systems.

At the same time, the British subsidiary of the European company MBDA will get anti-aircraft missiles worth about 2.5 billion euros.
